Session:

  • "So I Exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ as well as a partaker in the glory that is to be revealed. Tend the flock of God that is your charge, not by constraint but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly, not as domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock." 1 Peter 5:1-4

  • As stated in the church by-laws, "The full administrative responsibility of the church, both spiritual and corporate, shall be the responsibility of the Session."

  • The elders meet once a month on the second Tuesday of each month, and at other times during the year when Session meetings are called for special purposes. Our Pastor is the moderator of Session.

  • There are currently nine ruling elders, divided into three classes. One class shall be elected each year at the annual meeting of the church for a term of three years. Elders are ineligible to serve more than six consecutive years on Session.

  • This group is composed of 9 Elders with our Pastor as the moderator. They meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm.

Board of Deacons:

  • "The office of deacon as set forth in scriptures is one of sympathy, witness, and service, after the example of the Lord Jesus." (Book of Order G-6.0401)

  • The Board of Deacons is responsible for caring for the needs of individuals of the congregation and community, and serving in the programs of the local congregation.

  • The deacons minister to those who are in need, sick or in any way distressed. The Care and Concern Committee takes the primary role in this responsibility, though all deacons are called upon to keep in touch with members of the congregation on a regular basis; prepare meals and/or rides for families and individuals in need, provide child care, send cards, contact community personnel, and provide comfort and care wherever it is needed.

  • The deacons arrange and host blood drives. They continue to support the Overlook Chaplaincy through donations.

  • The deacons are also, as designated by Session, responsible for ushers at each service, the annual church picnic, greeters each Sunday, the Chancel flowers, the Annual Congregational dinner, preparation for Communion and counting the collection.

  • Deacons are represented on all Session and Congregational Committees. The Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. The Board consists of twelve members, who serve staggered three-year terms. One class shall be elected each year at the annual meeting of the church for a term of three years. Deacons are ineligible to serve more than six consecutive years on the Board.
